Stash your Christmas CASH

This Christmas, when your Aunty gives you some money in an envelope to buy something special, why not put some away for later.  When I was little I would spend all the notes, and keep all the change for later.  Hopefully Santa will give you a Pink Poppy Mermaid money box this Christmas, and then you'll have a special place for your Christmas cash!!

Keep your bling accessories safe and easy to find.

Even as an adult, you need a special place for your hair clips and earrings. But every little girl should have one of her own.  Having a jewellery box provides a safe place but is also sentimental and a nice touch to your bedroom.  Our Pink Poppy jewellery box has separate swing out compartments perfect for hair accessories and a big storage area at the top for your jewellery.  It is decorated with flowers and will grow up with you.

What's you best christmas memory?

Everyone remembers something special from when they were little about a particular christmas.  I remember going over to my Aunty's house for a big party every year, and after dark, Santa came over the roof and gave all kids presents!!  I was always so excited and made sure I had my prettiest dress on, and my hair was perfect.

What do you remember?  Was it getting your first baby doll or eating Nana special homemade pudding?

Christmas is not just about what you are doing to get, it's also about remembering what you have.  Great friends and a loving family should always be top of the list!

Pink Poppy winner photo shoot

After searching the nation to find out which type of Pink Poppy character Aussie girls are most like, we found a winner.  Lauren Holly from Gladesville NSW won with her brilliant answer.

Under the water is where I like to be,
A Pink Poppy mermaid I'd love to see,
It's so sparkly and pretty just like me!

She won a Pink Poppy wardrobe full of dress ups, bags, jewellery, hair accessories, toys and room décor.

We invited Lauren and her mum into our office for a fun dress up photo shoot where she got to see all the new costumes for next year.  Lauren snacked on cupcakes and lollipops, while she twirled and jumped and played with our magic wands.  Her favourite toy was a HUGE, PINK GLITTER SLINKY!!

Lauren will appear in the February edition of Total Girl magazine and also our 2011 Pink Poppy catalogue.  She was a beautiful, chatty little girl with lots of character - and was the perfect face for Pink Poppy.

The runners up were:-

Princess winner -- Alannah Simmonds- Wangara WA

Ballerina winner ---Bozena Dukanovic - Cranbourne VIC

Fairy winner --- Charlotte Dawes - Longwood, SA

Mermaid Winner -- Emma-Gene Jennings - Bundamba QLD

They each won a $200 Pink Poppy prize pack.

There are loads of other items you can make for your friends too -

  • a photo of you and your friend made into a postcard with a special message about why they are such a good friend
  • christmas star cookies

  • white christmas  ....
The list goes on.  It's not about what you give, it's about the thought behind the gift.

Dress ups are great for their imagination

Your little one is already showing an interest in the roles people play on a daily basis. Girls may be aware of what it means to be a mother and how that role causes a woman to act, while boys may be in tune with Dad’s role in the family. You can encourage this social exploration by simply opening up your drawers and closets for a little “let’s pretend” fun.

• Include dresses, work shirts, neckties, baseball caps, shoes, jewelry, hats, coats and other items you can find around the house.

• Help your children get dressed up, and then ask them who they are and what they do.

• Play along. Encourage them to talk about the characters they are dressed as. They may even want you to dress up, too.

• Take this one step further and pretend to be the characters all day long or during dinner. What would your character say if he wanted more soup? How would he ask for dessert?

• Gather the dress-up materials and store them in a box. This way, you’ll have easy access to them for next time. A trip to the thrift shop is a great way to build your dress-up wardrobe, including formal gowns and uniforms.

There is no end to the enjoyment your child will experience in the land of “let’s pretend!”

The postman and the doorbell

So many little ones love the concept of the postman.  This special person who rides a motorbike and delivers the mail to your letterbox.  Kids at preschool are always playing postman and making their own mail to post and retrieve.  It's the same with the doorbell.  It is fancinating that someone is coming to your house - who could it be??  And of course, there is always a fight as to who gets to ring the doorbell when you visit somebody.

I recently heard a story of a mum who put a princess doorbell on the playroom for her daughter.  Now Mum has to ring the doorbell and wait for little miss to answer and open the door.  Of course, this game never gets old as mum always has to be a different person - from Nana to the milkman, to a favourite teddy coming to visit.

It is great that something so small can brighten a childs day.

Which is your favourite Pink Poppy product?

We often hear of mums and nanas talk about their love of the Pink Poppy brand.  They love that it is innocent and appropriate for little girls.  It takes them back to when they were little and had to make up their own games to have fun.  Little girls will always love to dress up and pretend they are like Mummy.  Little handbags will often mirror the contents of their mums bag - phone, lipgloss, brush plus a baby under their arm.

Which is your favourite Pink Poppy product?

The Perfect Nails

Give Mum a treat this weekend!!  Give her a manicure.

The trick to mastering the manicure is to remember there are three coats you need for your nails to really last.  The first is called a base coat, which helps your nail colour to stay on for longer.  After that dries, it's time for the fun part- the colour!!  Put two coats on to really make them POP!  When that dries, put a top coat on, which is clear polish that helps to stop your nails from chipping.

There is even a new nail polish called Have a Heart by Nicole OPI that has hearts floating in the polish so when you paint your nails, little hearts are applied.

For all the little girls, Pink Poppy have a fastastic range of nail polish that doesn't have any nastys, and comes off in one piece.  PERFECT!!!!

Fairy party bag

Pink Poppy has all sorts of novelties likes bubbles, lipgloss, stickers, fairy tattoos, rings, earrings, projector pens, slinkys, balls, notepads and journals.  Or you could simply offer them a stationery kit, fairy stamps.
A few fairy lollies wouldn't go astray either ...

Fairy Party Cake

http://www.birthday-cakes.com.au/174/2009-0024/Mushroom-Fairy-Cake.html

This is the most amazing fairy cake I've ever seen.  I have provided a link in case you are adventurous.  Otherwise just decorate any cake in a fairy theme.
Or you can use the old Dolly Varden method and bake the cake in a pudding dish and insert a Barbie in the smallest end.  Let your imagination take over with all kinds of stars, silver balls and sparkles to decorate it.

Fairy Party food

A groovy fairy party idea is to sprinkle fairy dust onto the food (it could practically be anything, such as salt, parsley, icing sugar, coloured sprinkles etc) and just put in little containers. With paint write on them "fairy dust".

Fairy Fizz Red softdrink or lemonade with a dash of red colouring (to make it pink)

Elf Punch Make a fruit punch using the same quantity of cranberry juice, sparkling water and lemonade. Add some fruit and star shaped ice cubes.

Fairy Smoothie use berries and strawberry yogurt or icecream to make yummy smoothies.

Fairy Biscuits Use pink icing to ice some plain biscuits. Have some plain white ones as well as some with 100s and 1000s.

Fairy Cookies Using a star shaped cookie cutter, make your own star shaped cookies with different coloured cookies.

Fairy Bread What's a fairy party without fairy bread? Lightly butter bread, spread with lots of sprinkles, use a cookie cutter to cut into star or heart shapes or butterfly shapes and use a must stick as the body.

Fairy Popcorn melt some white chocolate and add some pink food colouring. Put popcorn on a tray and drizzle with chocolate. Place in fridge to set then snap into chunks.

Melon wands cut watermelon or honeydew melon into 2cm thick pieces. Use a cookie cutter to cut star piece and poke a kebab stick into the star.

Fairy Burgers Cut the hamburgers into star shapes with star cookie cutters.

Fairy Wings Bake some marinated chicken wings.

Cream cheese and strawberry sandwiches You can cut these with star, heart, diamond etc. shaped cookie cutters.

Magical coconut ice make up squares of pink and white coconut ice and decorate with silver balls or edible sparkles.

Jewel Salad Place fruit in a watermelon basket. Cut watermelon and rockmelon with heart, star, diamond etc. shaped cookie cutters. Sprinkle with 'fairy dust' (coconut).

Little Elf Crackers use Jatz crackers with slices of cheese and sliced meat cut into circles or shapes on top.

Fairy Wands Pretzel sticks - big or little, dipped in white chocolate or icing and dipped in sprinkles or 100s and 1000s on one end.

Fairy Gems Set out a bowl of different colored jellybeans.

Pixie Kebabs Thread pink marshmallows and grapes onto kebab sticks.

Fairy Party Prizes

Pink Poppy have lots of fairy trinkets to use as prizes.  Star wands, tiaras, stickers, bubbles, pens, notepads, even little boxes of lipgloss or fairy glitter.
